space...the final frontier...
last night i went to see star trek. and, to quote craig revel horwood, i LOVED it. but i'm thinking maybe not for the same reasons as others. my friends and i laughed all the way through. but no one else in the theatre was laughing when we were. i didn't think it was taking itself too seriously. and i think it had just the right level of tackiness. i liked that all the leads said lines i would've expected them to say. i liked that a red shirt dies fairly early. i liked that kirk got it on with a green chick. i liked that they were all wearing the correct coloured uniforms. karl urban channelled deforest kelley fabulously and delivered the lines with the right amount of cynicism. i also liked how sulu forgot to take the handbrake off on the enterprise and that there are two men from down under in it. there were a couple of things i didn't like, but only one was to do with plot. one was uhura. and i'm not going to say any more because i don't want to spoil stuff for others. one thing was the shaky camera work. would it have cost much for them to put the camera on a tripod? we have one at school they could've borrowed. i did not like chekov. i did not like leonard nimoy's teeth. i half expected them to come flying out of his mouth. i think that he could at least afford ones that fit better.

memories may be beautiful and yet...
...what's too painful to remember you simply choose to forget...
today's entry is inspired by trademe. someone is selling a very toxic washing machine that they have dubbed the 'death machine'. it sounds like a washing machine that we had when i was young.
this thing lived in the laundry. the laundry was a very unstable, and i'd imagine cheap, add on to the house i lived in (not our fault, it was like it when we got it...besides i was under 5 so not my fault either...). it had a life of it's own. i can't remember the brand name but i'm sure my brother does. it's a machine after all and he's a boy. this thing would walk all over the 'laundry'. upon reflection i think it just wanted to be closer to the drier which was opposite it. it had a funky knob that you turned around and then pulled out. it made a great clicking sound.
one day it got really frisky and 'walked' over to the back door. it successfully blocked the door so we couldn't get in...

i am an innocent man...
...or rather, there's enough doubt that you can't convict.
i've never thought that he did it but there were some moments in the case that i wasn't so sure.
freaky david bain moment...two weeks after they were all killed i read an article for teacher's college that was written by robin. it wouldn't have been memorable except for it being written by robin.
i now wonder how many others will try to get their convictions overturned. john barlow is next i think (i think he did it though) and i hope peter ellis tries to get his quashed too (he definitely didn't do it).
this result makes me glad we don't still have the death penalty...but i'd like to bring it back if you are 100% sure.
