space...the final frontier...
last night i went to see star trek. and, to quote craig revel horwood, i LOVED it. but i'm thinking maybe not for the same reasons as others. my friends and i laughed all the way through. but no one else in the theatre was laughing when we were. i didn't think it was taking itself too seriously. and i think it had just the right level of tackiness. i liked that all the leads said lines i would've expected them to say. i liked that a red shirt dies fairly early. i liked that kirk got it on with a green chick. i liked that they were all wearing the correct coloured uniforms. karl urban channelled deforest kelley fabulously and delivered the lines with the right amount of cynicism. i also liked how sulu forgot to take the handbrake off on the enterprise and that there are two men from down under in it. there were a couple of things i didn't like, but only one was to do with plot. one was uhura. and i'm not going to say any more because i don't want to spoil stuff for others. one thing was the shaky camera work. would it have cost much for them to put the camera on a tripod? we have one at school they could've borrowed. i did not like chekov. i did not like leonard nimoy's teeth. i half expected them to come flying out of his mouth. i think that he could at least afford ones that fit better.
