man it's hot here. and it's muggy. and the buildings are really tall. and beer is really expensive, well all alcohol is. consequently they don't have a booze culture like we do cos a cheap bottle of plonk costs $25. they had a bottle of cloudy bay on sale at a restaurant i was at last night for $96.
today i went to the beach. it was lovely there. we had a much cooler day temperature wise which was nice. there was all sorts of plastic floating past in the water which was lovely and brown. i still went in though...up to mid calf. just to feel what it was like. it wasn't as warm as i thought it might be. there were hundreds of ships moored off the beach where i was, just waiting to get into the port.
yesterday i went to changi to the war memoral. that was interesting. i was a little disappointed that none of the prison camp was still standing. seems that the policy here is stuff history, knock it all down so we can build more high rises. this island can fit into lake taupo yet 5 million people live on it. consequently there are tall buildings everywhere. it would be great to be a crane company owner here because they are everywhere. i also went to orchard road to see all the shops. i saw watches that were worth more than my house. they were vulgar by the way. went to raffles to have a beer ($20) and eat peanuts then throw them on the floor. i found that a little hard to do. had dinner at clark quay and saw several lady-boys. two were quite attractive, the third looked like a boy in a wig, and not a very good wig at that. i think you'd have to have several singapore slings inside you to even contemplate going there. speaking of singapore slings i had one of those...when in rome and all...and it was palatible (or is that palatable? i'm sure someone will tell me). also went across to pulau ubin and back. and also because it was mooncake festival a few of fiona's mates and their kids got together and we walked around the block carrying lanterns. fiona thought it was funny to get me a noisy lantern that when i turned it on would attract all the children. so i spent the time surrounded by under 6s.
tomorrow i'm off to malacca so i can collect another stamp in my passport.
no pics sorry. fiona took some so i may find the time and the expertise to load some later.
and don't believe what they say...singapore is just as filthy as the rest of the world.
